Cooks Hill
The Cooks Hill campus was the birthplace of Alesco when it was founded in 2002 by the current Atwea Executive Director, Rowan Cox and the current e-Learning Coordinator, Wendy Ratcliffe.
Our central location, close to the Newcastle City hub, provides access to several forms of public transport, along with the Newcastle Art Gallery, Library and Museum, which are all utilised by Cooks Hill Campus as experiential learning resources. The Alesco Newcastle campus has a purpose-built hall and commercial kitchen, which is utilised through our Café program. This program has been a great success, developing student’s skills in the kitchen, financial literacy, and customer service. Our student ‘Breakfast Barn’ is fitted with equipment for students to prepare their own food. We offer a range of food to the students free of charge, and enjoy weekly lunches, and implement a breakfast program for students.
Cooks Hill Campus has experienced a range of local excursions such as beach visits, riding electric bikes around Newcastle, Ninja Parc, bowling, and Treetops Adventure park. We also run weekly programs such as Dungeons and Dragons and Minecraft, promoting critical thinking and social skills between students.
We value our connections with the local community and community services. In 2022, our students were involved in events such as reading with local primary school students, volunteering at a Hunter Homeless Connect Day, and hosted an ANZAC Day service.
